Esthetics
Esthetics can be defined as the study and appreciation of beauty as it relates to the improvement of the human body. Students will obtain the skills, professionalism and expertise required for a successful career in the field of Esthetics. In addition to theoretical skills students receive extensive hands-on, practical training. Graduates will acquire vast knowledge and core competence in providing client consultation and will be able to perform quality skin treatments as well as relaxing massages, manicures and pedicures, waxing and hair removal, professional make-up, aromatherapies, specialized body treatments, as well as the salon/spa daily operations of cashier duties and scheduling appointments.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Esthetics Program may find employment in sales, facial and body treatment centres, day and health spas, beauty salons, electrolysis studios, scalp treatment and hair replacement clinics and other similar establishments, cosmetic departments of retail establishments such as pharmacies, and department stores. Self employment is also an option.
Acupuncture
As one of the best-known branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Acupuncture is used extensively and successfully all over the world. Acupuncture promotes health and is used to treat both acute and chronic illnesses by stimulation of specific points on the body, in many cases through the insertion of a filiform needle. You will receive the necessary instruction to practice acupuncture effectively, safely, and competently. The Acupuncture program will give you an excellent base for the acquisition of further knowledge of Chinese Herbology through continuing education.
Career Opportunities
With relatively few registered Acupuncturists in Atlantic Canada, there is a need for comprehensively trained practitioners. There are employment opportunities for both private practices and partnerships with other health professionals.
Certification
The majority of Atlantic Canada's Acupuncture Associations are currently pursuing regulation for Acupuncture in the provinces. Successful legislation will allow graduates of the Acupuncture program to write a registration exam locally. In the meantime, since the Acupuncture program meets the standards set out by currently regulated provinces (BC, AB, Que), students are allowed to challenge their set provincial

Child & Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker
Helping young people and their families overcome emotional and behavioural problems is the child and youth care worker's role. With the Child and Youth Care diploma, offered in cooperation with Grant MacEwan College of Edmonton, Alberta, you can offer your concern, guidance, and encouragement to troubled young people and their families. Building on the counselling, crisis intervention and creative helping strategies taught in the Child and Youth Care program, the Addictions Support Worker modules explore the physical, emotional and social effects of alcohol, drugs and gambling, examine the process of addictions assessment and teach effective case management skills. Upon graduation you will have completed the formal education requirements for the International Certified Alcohol And Drug Counsellor certification administered by the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation. The ICADC certification also comprises significant work experience, clinical training, portfolio and examination components.

This program helps prepare students for a broad range of counselling opportunities associated with both youth and addictions. Health Information Management
Health Information Management professionals collect and organize health information, assign codes to medical conditions and treatments for statistical summarization, safeguard health information and release it to authorized persons. Current and accurate information is critical for patients, health professionals, the public, health care agencies and government. The Health Information Management Program will develop your ability to understand biomedical sciences, health data classification systems, records management systems, computers in health care, health care delivery systems, research methods, statistics, epidemiology, medico-legal aspects of health information, utilization review, quality management and human resource management. You will also learn to apply knowledge and skills in health record science and records management, e.g. assembling, quantitative/qualitative analysis, transcription, coding, diagnosis typing, abstracting, research, data retrieval and analysis, medical and legal issues and professionalism. Developing and managing the transition from paper-based record systems to electronic systems. The program will also enable you to understand and utilize statistical methods in relation to health care.
This program will focus on the three domains of practice as outlined by the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA – the national certifying body for all Health Information Management professionals): the electronic health record; data quality; and privacy.
Career Opportunities
Health Information Management is one of the fastest growing occupations in the health care sector. As a Health Information Management professional, you contribute to individual and global health through the collection, management and reporting of health information. You provide an essential information support service which contributes to the delivery and evaluation of patient care, administrative decision-making, including financial planning and resource allocation. In Newfoundland and Labrador graduates find work as Health Information Management professionals and are primarily employed in hospitals. However, across Canada graduates may find work in government agencies, educational institutions, community health clinics, legal offices, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, primary care agencies, nursing homes, and long term care facilities.
Certifications
Utilizing curriculum from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST), CompuCollege is offering a 2-Year Diploma program in Health Information Management. As well, our program is recognized by the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Program recognition by CHIMA enables graduates to write the national certification exam. Successful challenge of the national examination qualifies graduates to work throughout Canada.

The Therapist Assistant Program at Medicine Hat College is nationally recognized and well established. This highly regarded program is now available in Atlantic Canada at CompuCollege. It combines classroom and practical learning in the foundations and skills required for support personnel in occupational therapy and physiotherapy with potential employers in hospitals, health units and private clinics. Students in this program will follow curriculum guided both by the currently identified functions, tasks, abilities and attitudes for entry-level, formally trained support personnel as defined by the Canadian Association Occupational Therapists as well as guided by the competencies defined by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association for “Group One” physiotherapist support personnel. Upon completion you will be awarded dual Medicine Hat College – CompuCollge diplomas as an Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physical Therapist Assistant (OTA/PTA).

Paralegal
This program is very intensive and covers many aspects of the legal profession. Upon completion, graduates will have a broad understanding of legal concepts, values and principles of the Canadian legal system, combined with specific knowledge about several major areas of law. Paralegals prepare legal documents, maintain records and files and conduct research to assist lawyers or other professionals, so students will learn the proper procedures and terminology used in the legal system and develop their research, problem solving and communication skills. Throughout the program the rules of proper professional practice including the rules of ethics are emphasized. Students will not only enhance their keyboarding and transcription skills, but will also receive hands-on training in the two major word processing programs. Subject areas will include wills and estates, real estate, corporate and commercial law, civil litigation, and family law.
