Program Objectives
This program is designed to prepare graduates to plan, market, and deliver safe and effective fitness, wellness and healthy lifestyle programs. Our goal is to have students develop current, practical knowledge and skills in such areas as the development, implementation and evaluation of fitness and wellness programs, health promotion, lifestyle management, fitness assessments, leadership, safety and injury management. Throughout the program our aim is to have students gain and build on their communication, leadership, interpersonal, and technical skills.
Career Opportunities
Graduates can expect to find employment opportunities in the retail fitness and sport industry, fitness and health clubs, corporate fitness, wellness, and recreation programs, and public and private fitness programs. Graduates may also find opportunities with community institutions for special populations, hospital and rehabilitation settings, health promotion agencies, municipal recreation, leisure services, and in the tourism industry.
Certification
Industry certifications have become a benchmark used by employers in the hiring process. The Fitness and Lifestyle Management program helps students prepare for certification in the following areas: (CanFitPro) certifications in:
• Fitness Instructor Specialist (FIS)
• Personal Trainer Specialist (PTS)
• Nutrition & Wellness Specialist (NWS)
